1981
AWIC is founded by Late K. Shankar Pillai as a registered voluntary organization.
The first issue of the quarterly journal, Writer and Illustrator is published.
Competition for writers and illustrators started.
1983
AWIC Home Library Project launched.
1984
Seminar on Promotion of Children’s Literature.
1985
Collection of stories for children published.
Indo-Soviet Seminar on Literature for Children
1989
Two collections of mystery stories published.
Pictorial Hindi dictionary for children Sachitra Hindi Bal Shabdkosh published.
AWIC participated in the Bologna Book Fair.
Children’s Choice Award (English) introduced.
Seminar on Better Books for Children and Exhibition
1990
AWIC becomes the Indian Section of the International Board on Books for Young     People (Indian BBY)
1991
First exhibition of original artwork of Indian Illustrators held.
AWIC gets the IBBY Asahi Reading Promotion Award.
Exhibition of original illustrations held at the Bologna Book Fair.
Catalogue titled Indian Illustrators 1962-92 published.
1992
Annual award for writers, illustrators and researchers instituted.
First National Exhibition of Picture Books for Children is held by AWIC.
1993
Seminar on International Understanding Through Children’s Books.
Hindi alphabet book published.
1994
Book Exhibition of books on the theme ‘Peace’ organised and souvenir released.
Seminar on Children’s Literature in South East Asia.
1995
National Seminar and Exhibition on the Panchatantra organised.

26th IBBY Congress Meet held
1999
AWIC opened Children’s Bookshop in Bal Bhawan, New Delhi.
2000
AWIC set up the theme pavilion at the 14th World Book Fair
Tamil alphabet book published.
2001
Indo-Austrian Seminar and Exhibition on Picture Books from Austria and SAARC     countries.
Distribution of books in Gujarat’s earthquake devastated areas.
Alphabet books published.
2002
Picture Book Exhibition in Vienna on Picture Books.
2003
National Seminar on Storytelling to Promote Children’s Literature.
Release of Creators of Children’s Books in India.
Release of Hindi book for beginning readers.
